Detox your brain like a pro
In 1964 Randy Gardner, at the age of 17, established a World Guiness Record in the number of hours spent without sleeping. He did not sleep for 11 days and 25 minutes, or 264,4 hours. Decades after establishing the record, he suffered serious insomnia. During the event the effects on his health, included problems with concentration, moodiness, paranoia, hallucinations, short term memory. Moreover, he was forgetting what he was doing. Nowadays, tens of years later, we know, that we need to sleep to detox the brain. If we don’t the consequences on our health are at least like those experienced by young Randy.
Our health in the hands of sleep
We often think that only complex solutions can heal us and change stuff. The doctors and drugs created in laboratories are trusted as the way to health. Big factories create drugs and multinational corporations lead the research. So, they need to know, right? But.. just recently I have been listening to a conference dedicated to DNA and health. What surprised me was, that most of the speakers who talked about human health, started with the same: the power of sleep, not the drugs. Those who spoke, were among the top world specialists in the field of genes, DNA, mitochondria, longevity. Why were they referring to such a simple thing as sleep? Because it is that powerful and crucial. During sleep, you detox your brain, rejuvenate, build long term memories and more.

But what about the doctors, drugs, hospitals, surgeries and pain killers? Aren’t they helpful?
Yes they are. There are circumstances when we need a surgery, or specilists who help us with the ears, lungs etc. But a surgery does not remove the root cause of the illness. However, this is what we often think, when we feel that something is wrong with our bodies. We turn to the doctors and trust drugs. Moreover, we are programmed to think this way, from the time when we are children. Just switch on the TV. The advertisements show you what to do when you are ill. According to them, you just need to buy pills, drugs and everything will be alright. But, unfortunately, it is not true.
Powerful machines
Our bodies are powerful “machines” designed to lead complex processes. Breathing, detoxifying the tissues, maintainig correct body temperature are just a few of these. Of all of them, sleep is the most important issue to optimizie.

The very basics of health
People are joking: what was first: a chicken or egg? Similar question may be asked here: what is the most important influence on our health: diet or sleep? Perhaps something else? During the conference I attended, the specialist came back with the same answer: sleep. Michael Karlfeldt, who is a well-known specilist in the longevity community, stated: “If you don’t fix sleep, how are you going to repair yourself?” None of the specilists mentioned drugs as the ultimate solution. But “sleep” was their answer.
The consequences of not sleeping
- libido is down
- hormones are messy
- driving skills are affected, as well as your ability to make correct judgments (just as under the influence of alcohol)
- talents and skills are weakend
- you experience a brain fog
- hunger for “rubbish” food
- panic attacks, hallucinations occure
- lack of sleep is closely connected to inflammation, cancer, obesity
- in a long term, those who don’t sleep enough are more prone to high blood pressure, heart attack and type two diabetes. Moreover, it may lead to reduction of the brain volume and the Alzheimer’s disease (according to dr Duncan Carmichael)
Lack of sleep is more serious than we think
Just to name a few. These are no mild consequences. I know them. In my life, in the past two years I went through very tough emotional situations. I could not sleep. I tried everything nearly. But… I simply lost my sense of safety. And, lack of sleep was not making things easier, but worse. Tired and afraid, I was not able to see my situation properly, I could not trust myself or God. Now, when I sleep better, I see everything differently. With a clearer mind, I can feel my emotions and feelings and decided what I want. I feel that it is alright, and I trust. My past two years showed me the importance of sleep. If you are well-rested, your brain has more power to make the correct decisions.

How you influence sleep
I know from my experience, that we can influence sleep. As I stated before I could not sleep and was close to depression because of that. The solutions needed time. I felt, that it could have been done naturally, without the artificial drugs. Moreover, it was obvious to me how important sleep was. I felt horrible, tired, sad, afraid, lost. So, I started reading more about it. I learned about the brain’s own purifying system. Just as the rest of the body uses a lymphatic system to remove the toxins, the brain has a glymphatic system. And… it is activated during sleep. If we don’t sleep, we do not remove the toxic waste from our brains, which may lead to the Alzheimer’s for example. To detox your brain, all you need is sleep.

How I started sleeping better, influenced my sleep and mood
1.I worked on my mindset and started meditating again. The “Silva mind meditation”, and a buddhist meditation were my choice. In the same time, I learned to let go. When you let go, you do not follow the thoughts when the arrive, but rather find the feelings in your body. What I observed was, that when you focus on the feelings, the thoughts vanish. As David Hawkins (author of the” Let go” technique) wrote, your body is the place where the emotions live. The thoughts are created by the emotions, and may be misleading you, taking away from the root cause of the trauma you are going through. You can discover the groundbreaking technique in his book titled “Letting go”.
2. I gave myself energy, by exercising more. One time when coming back from cycling I observed my emotions. My body was vibrating with energy. Just an hour before, I felt deeply sad, but after cycling my emotions were different: all the troubles seemed small and I felt that I could break through. And I did. If you like personal development, you most likely know who Tony Robbins is. Just watch how he leads his seminars. The participants need to stand up and exercice every now and then. Move and breathe. After such short interruptions their belief is strong, and they learn more.
3. Create your sleep area. Know how you feel in the sleep area. Are you relaxed? What is the temperature in the room? Is it lower than during the day and the room dark? How peaceful is it peaceful?
We need to take care of ourselves first.
5 benefits of sleep
The researchers analyzed data from the last 50 years to find out, that adults who sleep well have greater memory and better functioning brains in their old age. When you sleep, you
- detox your brain: through a glymphatic system
- consolidate short term memories to the long term memories
- secretion of neurotransmitters happens
- regulation of hormons (sleep affects libido in a big way)

The researchers are not yet 100% sure, but close to being convinced that lack of sleep is one of the major causes of Alzhemier’s. When we don’t sleep, our brains cannot remove the excessive toxic waste of cellular respiration and beta-amyloid proteins that build-up in it during the day. Our brains are the most energy consuming of all the organs of the body, and constantly creating metabolic waste. Patients with Alzhemier’s diseases have brains structurally changed by the build-up of the plaque.
So how does the glymphatic system work?
When we sleep, the vessels of the glymphatic system that wrap around the blood vessels in the brain, expand. The neurons open and the cerebrospinal fluid carries nutrients into the cells and carries out toxins. Among the toxins is the Amyloid plaque, so closely related to the development of the Alzheimer’s disease. A good night’s sleep is essential for our future.
