An eco mattress shows what we don’t want to know
It wasn’t an experiment. I just wanted to use one of our test products we created a while ago. It looked good and I wanted to use it as a bed. It was a special foldable mattress for floor, handmade, with our organic filling. A test product we have been working on for a while. The products was good, except… it was made of regular cotton. You know, 100% cotton, that may look good, but is full of toxic substances inside that we do not see. It is the conventional cotton. In the past, we used such fabric for testing (only), for prototypes of our new products that we created in our workhouse to try and see, so it was a non eco mattress. And now I decided to test it for sleeping.
What happened next shocked me and opened my eyes to the truth.
The correct way to insomnia
I took the rolled up non eco mattress, unrolled it, placed it on a floor, put our organic linen bed sheet on it, and wanted to fall asleep. But I couldn’t. I tried falling asleep, a quater passed and nothing happened. One hour later I was still tossing and turning in the bed, feeling as if my skin was burning. I felt tired, but I could not connect the facts immediately to find out the solution to my pain of not falling asleep. Perhaps (I felt) it was happening because it was late at night, and I had a busy day that day. So, I just tried and tried to fall asleep, minutes passed by. Midnight came. You know such moments, when you want to fall asleep, but nothing helps. I felt irritated.
Traumatic Conventional cotton
And then suddenly, I realized something! My skin felt as if it was burning, I had to toss and turn all the time nearly… so perhaps, I thought… there was something wrong with the bed or bed sheet. You see I am used to organic products. I do what I preach, and I use organic products for sleeping. But this time the bed was made of regular fabrics. I still could not believe that it was possible for regular fabrics to cause such stress and trauma to the skin. But, it looked like it was the reason. Finally, I removed the regular floor bed and placed my organic bed sheet on an organic bottom. As a result, I could fall asleep nearly immediately!
Yes, I know about the chemicals in cotton, we wrote about it several times, in articles:
Cotton pesticides in conventional crops
Conventional cotton has a dark side
Pain is your guide
In my head I knew that these substances in conventional fabrics are harmful to us and nature… but to the bottom of my heart I did not realize that the truth about poisonous chemicals is that strong and painful! There are at least 10 harmful chemical substances in conventional cotton, such as:
- parathion,
- aldicarb,
- methamidophos,
- dimethoate,
- chlorpyrifos,
- alpha-cypermethrin,
- deltamethrin,
but still, the immediate reaction of my body to the fabric was a surprise to me. It is the illusion we live in, at least I was living. Can you relate? Yeah, I could wear clothes made of conventional cotton, or have a chemical carpet, and felt good, so I felt it was alright.
But, my skin felt pain just by touching the fabric of the non eco mattress. And it was not an illusion. It was so severe that I could not fall asleep. Wow, it was shocking. Just imagine this, I was used to organic stuff, but if we do not have an experience of using an eco mattress, we possibly cannot fully understand what our skin is feeling when exposed to such toxic substances. Because it is the only thing we know. And that it may cause insomnia.
If it was that harmful to me, just imagine how it affects babies.
From cotton to food and cosmetics
Non eco mattres made of regular cotton showed me to pay attention to the things I and we have in our lives, food, cosmetics, perfumes -realted. We should not be creazy about everything, as it would very likely lead us to anxiety, stress and depression. However, knowing these things I am going to share, may prolong your life. Who wouldn’t want that 🙂
Chemistry disturbs the brain
- Problems with fertility
- Alzheimer’s disease
- Cancer
- ADHD
- impotence
- lowering male limbido
- TDS dysgenetic testicle syndrome
Globally increasing number of cases of these problems may have a surprising common ground. Who would have thought, that plastic bottles, perfumes, cosmetics, cosmetics with UV filters have something similar that is destructive to us? They are in nearly every home, and like conventional cotton, would destroy our health day by day, like a drop that falls on a rock one drop after another, to finally crash the rock into pieces.
Something we would rather not know
Drinking water pipes, food containers made of plastic and metal (canned food and drinks), reusable bottles, smartphones, DVDs, receipts, they are common goods, aren’t they. True, and they contain bisphenol A, a chemical, that has been on the market since the 60s.
A case study was done on a group of pregnant women. Their urine samples were tested between 8 and 16 weeks of pregnancy to reveal large bisphenol A derivatives. Born boys, at the age of two showed fewer masculine characteristics compared to other peers. They had less tendency to take risks, compete, behave aggressively, and had difficulties in stressful situations. As a result of exposure to bisphenol A during the prenatal period, their brain was feminized.

Dr Timo Strunker reveales the truth about chemicals
No, it is not only the high doses of chemicals in the products that are harmful to us and nature. Even the traces are, because they accumulate over time plus all the toxins in our surroundings add up. Dr Timo Strunker from the Centre of Advanced European Studies and Research in Bonn revealed that
“We have shown that male sperm damage can occur even when the concentration of any toxic substance does not exceed a safe level. What is important is the combined impact of a “cocktail” of dozens of chemicals at the same time.”
Mennonites show the way forward
Mennonites are a group of Anabaptist Christain church communities (Wikipedia), with their beginning going back to as early as the XVI century. Back then, it was Menno Simons (1496-1561) who formulated the early teachings during Radical Reformation. They were based on the belief in the mission and ministry of Jesus. Nowadays the community is mainly based in the USA, and known for their strict lifestyle. They eat unprocessed food, avoid and do not use pesticides when growing grains or vegetables, use few cosmetics. You can be sure that they use an eco mattress for sleeping.
The scientists from Mount Sinai School of Medicine and University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry looked closely on the style of life of 10 pregnant women from the community of Mennonites. They found out something wonderful. Their blood and urine samples revealed four times lower levels of bisphenol A and twice lower levels of phthalates when compared to the women from outside of the community.
