Sometimes we get more than we expect. We want to sleep well, and choose one of the floor beds. We begin sleeping well, as it has a flat, hard to medium hard surface. Our spine feels better, and our muscles and joints relax. The Japanese have been using flat floor beds for centuries, they tested them. But, what if I told you, that a bed can do much more? The magic and secrets of the Ancient cultures attract us. The Sumerians, Chinese, Japanese, Egyptians, Greek and Romans lived thousands of years ago. Yet we do not stop exploring who they were and how they did what they did. However, and it is strange, we often see them as primitive in comparision with what we see as “civilisation”: our civilisation. Comfort, cars, airplanes. Regarding those who lived thousands of years ago, they did not have the internet, electricity and telephones. But they could do things we have no idea how to in our time.
The Ancient secrets
People built the Pyramids four and half thousand years ago! Each stone block those huge constructions were built with weighs approximately 2,5 tons. The largest one, the Cheops Pyramid (near Cairo in Egypt) has over 2,3 million of such blocks and weighs in total… 6 million tons! Indeed, it was done over 4,5 thousand years ago. It seems a long time ago, but they had knowledge about the world and powers in it we should listen to. Why am I telling you this? Because they looked and listened closely to nature.
The Egyptian priests, the Sumerian doctors
Those who had knowledge in ancient Egypt, used it to overpower other people. I am talking about the Egyptian priests. However, they knew nature, stuff we so often see as naive. Back then they knew these things are powerful. If they followed nature, did not have electricity and at the same time built the Pyramids, something we see as difficult with all our equipment nowadays… weren’t the Ancient people simply amazing in terms of knowledge and the ability to use it? Yes, they were.
Italian renaissance
I want to share two more amazing things. All of us know Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. The geniuses of the Italian renaissance, the period known as the flowering of man, time of genius. They lived in the XV and XVI centuries in Italy. Additionally, do we know how did renaissance really start? It is a bit amazing, so I will share it here:
Looking back is not always bad
The people in power at the time, The Pope, the Medici, were sending others to the monasteries of Europe, where the manuscrips were held. Further, the manuscripts were the documents from the ancient times, mostly ancient Rome and Greece. Furthermore, the found manuscripts were later translated into Italian, and read with passion and hunger. Hunger for knowledge.
Moreover, they openly read Plato, Aritotle and others. Finally, wisdom of those documents started a new way of thinking about life, the world and who a human trully is. “The Italian renaissance” was born on the foundation of ancient knowledge discovered in the manuscripts from the monasteries.
Florence and renaissance
The time in history of art, filled with the greatest artists of all time (Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, Lippi, Donatello, Pico della Mirandola, Cosimo de Medici, Lorenco the Magnificent, Ficino and others) was born by looking back in history, into people from the ancient times. Indeed, those ancient had knowledge able to transform the minds of people and the world. If Leonardo and De Medici cherished them, shouldn’t we?
The ancient people were a little crazy about this
Several things and among them: plants. Back then, thousands of years ago, people saw them as a rich source of not only food, but also as medicine. They healed and killed. Besides, the green plants, that we so often take for granted nowadays, were used in hundreds of ways. For example the small seed: charlock, that we use in our organic charlock bed, was known in Ancient Rome. Pline d’Ancient, the most respected Roman historian, who lived in the first century, wrote “Naturalis historia”, a monumental work with descriptions of nearly 1000 plants.
He listed 40 medicinal products, the basic ingredient of which was mustard.

Being close to nature proved to be very beneficial many times over. Back then, people did not have the chemical solutions, like drugs for example, so somehow they had to use plants. But… because of that, they got to know them so well. The geniuses of the Italian Renaissance could take advantage of the ancient knowledge, so can we.

Thousands of years of fascination with this small seed
For thousands of years this small seed has been in use both for preventive and therapeutic purposes. Egyptian priests, Japanese and Chinese doctors knew it. They used it to relieve the pain. Mustard seeds were found in Sumerian storage vessels excavated near Baghdad. Clay tablets read that mustard seeds were used as an ingredient in medicinal ointments. In the first century Pline L’Ancien, one of the greatest Italian historians and politicians wrote about 40 medical ointments that contained mustard seeds.

I feel in awe of small steps taken daily, and the compunding effect. if you do things well every day, the good effects add up, to deliver astounding results, like greatly improved health. Organic things in our surroundings, instead of the regular ones make this massive difference.
