Biomimicry, one idea that changes the future
The “future tellers”. They read the lines on your palms, or pick up cards to tell you your future. And there are people like Nostradamus, who are perceived as the great clairvoyants. (Nostradamus was a French physician, apothecary, astrologer, who lived from 1503 to 1566. He has been known thrughout the centuries for his book “Les Propheties” (published in 1955), by many seen as the book containing predictions of the future). However, if their predictions were true, it would mean that all the growth, changes were somehow written in stone. Furthermore, ideas like Biomimicry, Quantum Physics, were not genius ideas, but somebody’s plan, somebody’s from somewhere.
You see, I have one probem with those people. First, they say that they “predict the future”. But the future is an ever changing machine, that does not exist yet, as it forms in each and every moment. Besides, when they “predict”, they somehow force us to believe that what they say is true. Eventually, our will, if we trust them, might bring their impressions to life. But… were their visions a certain future? Well, no, as anything may change in a second. The future is in our hands, and I strongly believe, that we can do anything we want.

Why such a provocative introduction to an article about a fenomenal new type of science, Biomimicry?
Because if we believe in what the scientists, politicians tell us about the future, we may stop believing that another reality is possible. And it is. “Logic will take you from A to B. Imagination will take you anywhere” said Albert Einstein. Again, no matter what other people say is certain, there are always other possibilities. Moreover, the future is in the hands of those who take action and create. Additionally, even if there are people you trust who say that there is no hope for the environment, that we as humanity have passed a line of no return, that it is too late for change, they might very certainly be wrong.
“Knowledge is limited; whereas imagination embraces the entire world.” Albert Einstein
Indeed, the scientists often want us to understand the complexity of our current world. Water scarsity, destruction of the environment/ biodiversity, overpopulation, scarsity of food, tension between nations, migration, raising levels of sea and ocean. What’s more, the list can be longer. The challenges our global community is facing seem overwhelming. But people who deeply focus on one understanding, tend not to see other elements of what is happening.
What if anything is possible?
It was Leonardo da Vinci, the great Italian genius who lived in XV and XVI century who dreamed about flying. His first flying machines copied the birds. It took humanity over 400 years to create the first airplane. The Wrights brothers flew their first plane on 17th December 1903. First, people laughed at Leonardo da Vinci, and thought that flying was impossible. Those in XX century were astonished by what the Wright brothers did. The brothers proved that Leonardo’s dreams were doable. Eventually, everything we see as impossible is impossible becaue we don’t believe that it could actually be done. Until someone treats it as a challenge and finds a solution. Leonardo was one of those who did biomimicry in his life. He observed nature, and applied it to his projects.
Making the impossible possible
Before Roger Bannister run 1 mile in less than 4 minutes on 6 May 1954, noone believed it could be done. Just two months later another runner broke the “four-minute barrier” again. The runners understood that it was doable and simply did it. I love what Joe Dispenza said about the so-called “Impossible”:
“We should never wait for science to give us permission to do the uncommon; if we do, then we are turning science into another religion.” Joe Dispenza
The genius of nature
What we see as unsolvable problems, very likely have solutions. A fairly new type of science called Biomimicry, has started to prove the uncommon. It shows us the crazy incredible genius of nature and how we humans can apply it to solve our problems. When scientists started to look closely on living organisms, they were simply in a state of awe. The insects, birds, mammals, plants, the entire ecosystem all started to reveal their stunning truth: solutions that have been developing for thousands and millions of years.

Impossible? Think twice
Many would kill a fly. This tiny insect, that happens to irritate when you are trying to fall asleep or concentrate on a single task, is in fact one of the greatest living small creatures on planet Earth. It moves its wings over 150 times per second. It turns 90 degrees in the air in less than 50 milliseconds. The most advanced human-built aircraft, Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II, would crash when trying to do it that fast. A fly can taste something through its wings. How incredible it is? Can we humans taste food by touching it with our fingers? No way. But a fly can.To move its wings the fly uses 20 different muscles.
The outcome: The engineers and scientists started studying the flies, to learn from them how to create flying robots. This is one of the examples of biomimicry. Unfortunatelly, often the newest creations are first used by the army.

Kingfisher helps solve a train problem
In Japan people love travelling by trains. And their trains are fast. However, the famous bullet train was unfortunatelly causing problems when travelling through tunnels and especially when leaving them. There was a loud sound, that seemed unbearable for those who lived close to the tunnels and to nature as well. The reson was in the shape of the nose of the train. The Japanese engineers started working on it. The general manager of the technical development department for the bullet trains in 1997 was Eiji Nakatsu, who’s passion was bird-watching. He was also a member of the Wild Bird Society of Japan. When observing them, one tiny bird caught his attention. It was a Kingfisher, with especially aerodynamic bow, that made minimal splash when diving into water. In fact, it is the most aerodynamic beak among all the birds.
It is long, narrow and streamlined, shaped so perfectly, that when a bird dives into water, it flows past the beak instead of being pushed in front of it. And, this is exactly what the Japanese needed for the train to travel smoothly through the tunnels. What’s more, the incredible thing is, that before finding the solution, Nakatsu asked himself: “Is there some living thing that manages sudden changes in air resistance as a part of daily life? Yes, there is, the kingfisher.”
The shape of the bird’s beak was studied and the new design of the front of the train was a near ideal copy of the bird’s beak! The new trains are faster, quieter, cleaner, use less energy, consume less fuel and are cheaper.
The future belongs to all of us
These are only two out of countless innovations inspired by nature, that are the solutions in real life situations. Nature shows us its garden of possibilities. Incredible beauty and inspiration, genius solutions created by the living organisms during billions of years of evolution. Moreover, they are there for us to discover and apply to solve our biggest challenges. It is us who can help nature not only survive but thrive and be healthier each day. Biomimicry opens our eyes to its genius and the greatness of the future that can be ours.
Choose organic
Our future depends on our connection to nature, our unity with it. Nature not only gives us this incredible inspiration, but also clean water to dring, fresh air to breathe, food to eat. Besides, it astonishes us with its beauty. The greatest gift we can give to our children is their safe future, and nature is where it all starts. One of the most important paths on this road are the daily choices we make, to choose organic products that are created with respect for nature and people.

Everything we do matters
Whether it is a bed, like the organic buckwheat beds that our company makes, or plastic free containers, organic paints, carpets, clothes, you invest not only in your health, but in our ecosystem and the future. Each of our choices is crucially important, as they accumulate over time. This is the reason why we started creating our bedding products, to offer a natural organic mattress that does not harm nature, but supports it. Organic beds that help us sleep better and take care of ecosystem. Furthermore, this is the standard we want from all the products on this planet Earth. Lastly, it is what our future needs, not by predicting it, but creating it, by making choices.
The provocative future: biomimicry
Our future is to be discovered, and completly adored. We need to fall in love with what nature shows us. Also with the idea that our choices are crucial. Biomimicry opens the gates to the secret gardens where everything is possible. Let’s be children again, and follow our true guide, lets fall in love with nature. Just think of all the incredible solutions each living organism has developed during its evolution. Wow, I am in a state of awe, I hope you are too. Let’s protect nature together. Let’s choose organic.
