Feng Shui bedroom layout
In our fast-paced world we need relaxation and serenity now more than ever. That is why creating a peaceful heaven in our homes and apartments is so important. Feng Shui does just that, as it takes care of the harmonious connection between a person and the space around. Here, in this post we will dive into the general Feng Shui principles, Feng shui bedroom layout, beds and more. Finally, one thought: no matter how attractive Feng Shui is, your own sense of beauty and serenity is more important.
…Moreover, help that comes from the outside, is a great help, and only that. What’s more, to achieve inner stability, it needs to come from your inside.
The magic of you, the power to create
In This Article
Once we know this, help that comes from the outer sources is a great support. I personally love it. Feng Shui is energy. Something you cannot see, but definetly can experience its results. Just like with our feelings, that can be felt, but not seen through you eyes. You can feel amazement, it runs through you when you see something beautiful. Your body reponds, and it is just an emotion, feeling that starts the real reactions in your belly, heart, muscles, spine. The same with anger.
Moreover, the feelings that cannot be seen are experienced as illnesses or spontaneous healings. It is energy, once we know how powerful our feelings and thoughts are, we rarely give in to negativity. Because of that, Feng Shui is in my life, somehow out of necessity, as the house I live in requires the ability to remain calm in the heart of chaos. Besides, this is a bit like our world right now, in which many of us need to know how to find inner peace in a stressful life, isn’t it? Feng Shui is one of the supportive paths to calmness, inner stability and beauty.
My story, how it started
I live on the first floor of a strange house, I have a flat here. You see, the house is dark inside, the staricase is dark and quite steep, as it was built over a hundred years ago. I love old buildings and this flat where I live has belonged to my family for over 80 years. Yes, but the influence of the dark inner space of the house can be felt on people who live here. I remember the first days when I moved into the apartment. I felt the energy of the inner house corridors, and I felt the darkness of people, especially when autumn arrived.
That is why I started thinking about uplifting my energy in my flat. To make it bright and relaxing no matter what happens on the outside. This is how a journey into the conscious creation of space started, one that includes feng shui bedroom layout, design and principles.
Light is more important than we think
Around thirty years ago the interior of the house was very bright, full of windows, natural light and wood. But different people came, they rebuilt the inner space and it is dark now. And the atmosphere in the house is just like that. The darkness influences people.
Listening to the feelings and observing the space
Since the beginning of my being here I have had strange feelings, and felt the need to clear the space of my flat. If I am still here (I felt), before I move out, perhaps… the flat can become more optimistic and different to the other areas of the building. I was curious and wanted to see what happens. My feeling was… “if the energy of the house changed when it became dark inside, maybe, maybe it was possible to make my apartment full of great energy if I made it even brighter, with different colours etc.”

Feng Shui book
My discovery of Feng Shui
One day, a local library was selling books. One of the books was about something that sound familiar: Feng Shui. I bought it. It was the famous “Creating sacred space with Feng Shui” by Karen Kingston. Page by page, I realized that I found what I was looking for. While reading the book I looked on the space differently. I was particularly shocked when I followed Bagua (you will read the explanation of it later in the article).
Going through one section of the rooms to another, you can change the energy flow and your feelings. Feng Shui is simple, yet very effective. What’s more, it is a way to support your general mental state, to help yourself become more calm and relaxed, rejuvenated in your life. Moreover, feng shui bedroom layout, kitchen layout, bathroom, living room and other places suggest a placement of furniture that will help you feel better.
However, as always, follow your inner guidance, feelings and needs, we are all unique. No matter how attractive other people’s rules are, you have your own individual self, and path. Listen to the voice within.
What is Feng Shui
Simply put, it is minimalism and great flow of energy. It originated around 3 thousand years ago in ancient China, country known for its philosophy, spirituality, power , and inventions of gunpowder, compass, papermaking and printing (among others). Feng Shui means “wind and water”. At first it was to find the best places for tombs, later palaces, important buildings and sculptures, and finally to design the entire cities. In her book, Karen Kingston gives an example of Hong Kong, as a city created on Feng Shui principles. And it is an extremly wealthy place.
In the Western world, Feng Shui first reached the USA in the 90-ties of the XX century to later spread to the other western nations. In our deeply materialistic world, the spiritual new eastern practice quickly found believers and practitioners. Our world is made of energy, and Feng Shui leads to a harmonious connection between different things, light and shapes, human being with the environment.
In the East it may take thirty years to fully learn the Feng Shui principles. In this article we will show several “rules” , to help you use the new knowledge stright away. What may happen if you decide to apply them? More energy, health, brighter emotions, relations, wealth. Just to begin with. Karen Kingston says, that Feng Shui gives hope and helps connect with Sacrum, harmony in life, bond the material with spiritual.
Feng Shui principles
The basic Feng Shui is simple. Its principles include furniture and plants placement, careful choice of colours used, space clearing, all to make your aprtment or home open for the energy flow. Among the key Feng Shui principles are:
- Removing unwanted things regularly, cleansing the space with bells, hands, scents, Palo Alto or White Sage
- Adding plants
- Careful choice of colours, for walls, furniture
- Making sure that the floor is open as much as it can, which means no baggage standing on it, no packages
- Natural fabrics and textures. Organic fabrics, like linen, organic cotton, are visualy beautiful and calming. Moreover, they are healthy, as no toxic substances have been used during their production.
- Use calming furniture that helps you relax: sofas, armchairs, organic mattresses. You can use floor beds as well, that are created by us, our beautiful, relaxing organic buckwheat mattresses.
- Careful placement of furniture and light
- Applying the changes slowly
Space clearing
1.Declutter
Before you start moving furniture, declutter the space and clear it. Karen Kingston tells a story of an old house she was once visiting. It was a place where generation after generation lived. The experience, feelings and situations associated with the people left their energetic imprint on everything that was there. When going from one room to another, she could listen to the energy of the walls and furniture to hear the story of the children that lived there, their hopes, struggles, dreams and plans. In another place she felt the accumulated energy that was at least one meter thick, extending from the walls into the center of the rooms. It felt thick ans sticky, like mud.
Clear your clutter with feng shui. Everything you own has an energetic connection with you, and so chaos and lack of order make you feel tired. If on other hand you surround yourself with only that which makes you feel great, your entire life becomes like that. It shines, you live “here and now” with greater energy than before. When you remove stuff, you make space for new.
Mess has its reason
Karen (in her book) says something very interesting: she suggest that we make a mess to slow down our lives and reduce our own energy. It certainly has a reason in our lives, our own individual path. We do things for a reason. The outer world influences our inner world and vice versa. If you make changes on the inside, the outside will change as well. Change the outside, and see the inside shift.
Our surrounding creates us
The rooms we spend our time in are not just the background, but can slow down or speed up our growth. How to start decluttering the space? You will read more about it in our article : declutter, but for now, think about clothes, books, magazines, paintings, furniture, or even old letters you do not need. If you have not used it for over a year, remove them, give to charity, sell them. Start with one thing, just finish one drawer. Then do the next one…
On Bali, the citizens cleanse the space on a daily basis, to make sure the negative, low energy is removed.
2. Space clearing
Once the interiors are decluttered, it is time to deal with the energy. Karen suggests following a ritual, but first, checking your own emotions. If you feel fear, uncertainty, don’t do it. The steps to follow, in biref. To know more, read Karen Kingston’s book:
- take a shower to be pure before dealing with the energy, you will feel it more intensly
- hide food and drinks, water
- do not wear jewelry or metals, be barefoot
- work in silence
- open windows
- cleanse the space: light the candles and incense, then follow with clearing by clapping your hands, ringing bells, creating energetic shields and light, by visualisations, mantras, words.
- fill the cleared space with new energy, of what you want tohappen, emotions to feel
The steps may seam weird if you are not used to working with energy, but I have experienced how the space changes when you clean it with action, intention and good energy. When it is done, you should fill the space with the energy of what you want, by imagining it.
Feng Shui House
When a person builds a house on feng shui principles, we accept it, but what if it is an entire city? Hong Kong is just such an example. Houses, as everything, have their unique energy. Further, the buildings respond to our energy. According to Karen Kingston, if you respect a building, it will give it back to you. So, when you have a new home, rebuild it first, than cleanse the energy and finally move into it.
Feng Shui focuses on the shape of the house, its inner design. It helps place doors, toilets, bathrooms, gives suggestions for feng shui bed placement, tables, windows and more. Each of the floors of your house follow the same bagua net. Your entire home as well and the plot on which it is built. You will read what bagua is in the next paragraph.
Bagua Feng Shui
Bagua… I remember something funny. When I first discovered bagua and looked on my flat, I saw that in the space of love, love relationships I had a plant with sharply pointed leaves. And this is what was happening in my “relationship” with a man I loved. What is bagua? It is a net, that you impose on the plan of your house or apartment. It comes from “I Ching”, the Chinese “Book of changes”, dating from the 4th century BC. The plan shows which areas reflect different aspects of our lives. It has 9 spheres, with the central one responsible for wellbeing, health, unity. 9 spaces highlighted on the grid are:
- path, career
- relationships, love , marriage
- the elders, family and community
- wealth, prosperity
- unity, well-being, health
- freinds, compassion
- creativity, children, projects
- contemplation, wisdom, personal development
- enlightenment, fame and reputation

Feng Shui Bedroom layout
It has always been very important in Feng Shui. Bedrooms and bed placements are of key importance to us, as we spend 1/3 of our lives sleeping. The way we sleep, whether we can rejuvenate or rather wake up tired, colors our days. Sleep is fundamental to a healthy life. Feng Shui Bedroom layout is simple, yet what is advised as first, is to check whether the geopathic or electromagnetic stress do not appear there. Bedroom should be placed as further from the front door as possible. Feng Shui explains, that it helps you take time to decide in your life about situations and make choices slowly. The closer to the front door, the less time you will have to make decisions, and situations will happen more rapidly.
Such feng shui bedroom placement gives you sense of peace and safety, which influence your sleep quality, and helps you have a good night’s sleep without interruptions. (if you live in fear, you will most likely wake up in the middle of the night, around 3 or 4 o’clock in the morning, as it is the time when liver that is associated with the emotion of fear becomes active). The calmer you sleep, the easier it will be to manifest your dreams and desires.
Feng Shui Bed placement
It is not only feng shui bedroom layout that counts, but also how you place your bed. Do not place it close to the doors, or windows. If you do, you may feel fear that at any time a person may enter the room, which gives the feelings of inner tension. Space gives you the sense of safety. Place the bed far from the doors, and also keep the small distance from the walls. You should be able to see the doors and windows. Feng Shui suggests never placing the bed in a way that the feet point directly at the doors. Simply because this placement is associated with … removing a dead person from a room, with the feet going out first. This is not magic, but rather written deep into our subcionsious.
If there are beams on the ceiling, do not place the bed below it. The same happens with the lamp shades with sharp edges. When they point at your bed, your health might be affected. Choose a spherical lampshade instead.
Choosing the bed frame
What type of bed-frame to use? We are often asked this question by our customers. So, it is best to place the organic bed on a wooden bed frame. Further, the mattress should be made of organic natural fabrics and filling. Furthermore, our beds deliver the sense of safety, serenity, motherly touch. Fully organic (with an exception of a zipper), handmade and hand filled, they have positive energy. Organic buckwheat mattress helps protect agains water veins. Partially, because the energy of the veins is very strong and leads to illnesses. Finally, it is better to move the bed to a place without the water veins below it in the ground.

Moreover, there should be empty space between the bed and floor, to ensure the free flow of energy and air.
Feng Shui plants
Plants can purify the space. NASA did their homework and prepared the list of plants that can be used in space ships to remove the chemicals from the air including formaldehyd, a very hazardous substance. Indeed, this chemical is known to cause cancer, and milder reactions as well: sore throat, migranes, nausea, sleep disturbances, just to name a few. Finally, it is used in many of the things we have in our homes: carpets, plywood, paints, wallpapers, non-creasing fabrics, wood varnishes and other.
Plants that nurish the interiors
The plants help us purify the air. NASA uses only that which makes sense. However we do not need to go to space to appreciate plants in our interiors. They are beautiful and very helpful. And, I personally love them and have plants in each of the rooms and even in a bathroom. What are the best Feng Shui plants to use?
- Wallis’ Spathiphyllum
- Peperomia
- Syngonium
- Dwarf bana trees
- Gold radiophore
- Crassula
They filter the air, raise the energy in the interiors, increase oxygenation and hydration. Final thought here: in Feng Shui sharp pointed leaves are not seen as supportive in our environments. Rather choose round leaves pointing upwards, like Crassula. Feng Shui suggests placing this plant in the area for prosperity, abundance.

Feng Shui bedroom colors
Each of the colours has its own unique essence and influence. Blue cools down and relaxes, red attracts attention, activates, orange stimulates hunger 🙂 Yellow enriches emotions (it is also a colour for the third chakra, the sacral chakra, responsible among other for activity, taking action, movement), green heals, brow grounds and pink is the colour of love 🙂 On Bali, white is the highest colour, and means purity in life. These principles apply to any of the interiors:

Feng Shui interior design
White interiors open you for possibilties. Feng Shui bedroom layout defines the colours chosen as well. White, shades, darkness, windows, all create an interior that is unique and requite colours that work with how the space looks like.
