Organic buckwheat mattress without toxic chemicals
Nowadays, of all the materials that the companies use to manufacture fabric related products, cotton is the one you will find and they use most often. As of today, many countries engage in cotton cultivation because of the profitability. Money talks… Despite the comfort and the versatile uses, there are some alarming facts that we need to know of about this particular crop when the farmers cultivate it in non-organic manner. Moreover, these facts are often hidden from you. On the other side of this world of toxicity is the organic world, in which your health improves and life becomes better. That is why an organic buckwheat mattress came to life.
Effects of non-organic cotton
One of the most alarming facts that we associate with regular cotton production is the amount of strong chemicals they use. During the cultivation process, farmers use massive amounts of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides in order to maximize the yield. As a matter of fact, contrary to organic cotton, non-organic cotton farming utilizes more than 10% of world’s pesticides and more than 25% of world’s herbicides. These chemicals are extremely harmful for humans, animals and the whole ecosystem. They will end up in our natural water systems and food sources making things even worse.
water is scarce, yet…
As a commercial crop, cotton demands significant amount of water. In some countries (particularly in Southern and Central Asia), large streams and rivers are diverted towards cotton fields, which is an extremely dangerous approach in terms of environmental concerns.
Once they harvest the crop, regular cotton undergoes various processes. Most of these processes are with strong chemicals particularly when it comes to treating, washing, dying, bleaching etc. While the waste substances of these strong chemicals enter the eco systems and damage it, the remaining substances in the material itself can cause irritations and be allergic to humans and deadly to natural world.
Organic cotton and linen as alternatives
Using organic cotton and linen is the best solution to address all the issues we talk about above. Generally, the farmers produce organic cotton with strict measures to protect the environment and human health. Here are some of the direct benefits associated with organic cotton production.
- Manual farming practices to minimize carbon emission
- Plants are natural (not modified genetically)
- No use of chemicals during the farming as well as processing
- Safe for farmers, users and environment
- No toxics contamination
